The Déise’s answer to Banksy

Meet Waterford Walls

It’s that time of year again, Waterford Walls, the International Street Art Festival based in Waterford City and its surroundings, is back! 2022 will be its eighth year, returning August 12 – 21.

Set up by The Walls Project, a creative agency specialising in the delivery of large-scale mural art projects and community initiatives, this year’s festival continues to rely heavily on volunteers, with a direct emphasis on community participation and engagement via artistic collaborations, guided art trails, and artist workshops. Over 20 national and international artists will create large scale mural artworks around Waterford City and the surrounding areas.

Best known for their International Street Art Festival Waterford Walls, the team at The Walls Project HQ is busy year-round with activity across a number of areas –– one of which, we’re proud to announce is happening on our doorstep. To celebrate the 2022 festival, Fitzgerald Power has commissioned two of Waterford Walls’ lead painters to create a mural on the side of our new premises on Catherine Street. Taking inspiration from the Children of Lír – and namely, the female protagonist of Fionnuala – artists Omin and Mister Copy will take over our new building this August to paint something beautiful for passersby to marvel at as they walk by.

Mister Copy is a street artist from Johannesburg, South Africa. He currently lives in Paris where he practices his art daily. His style leans into ancient mythology, relating old tales of gods and goddesses but using traditional graffiti elements such as drips and tags along with forms of realism and abstract. Omin is a graphic artist with a 20 year history rooted in Graffiti. Hailing from Dundalk, Ireland. Omin has been painting and traveling extensively, becoming established on the international graffiti art scene. Painting in cities across the globe from New York, London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam and Copenhagen, to name but a few.

“To say we are excited to see what Omin and Mister Copy create on our new building is an understatement. Both artists speak to the core of Fitzgerald Power’s ethics – sustainability, creativity and an appreciation for what has gone before us. The Children of Lír piece they’ve mocked up is also visually stunning – something we think the Waterford people will appreciate. What a welcome into our new building!” Stuart Fitzgerald, Managing Partner Fitzgerald Power
